Clonal archives of genus Populus and Salix are maintained as ex situ gene resource of valuable genotypes and also hybrid clones from breeding programmes. Poplars of sections Leuce, Tacamahaca and Aigeiros are for research use as well as for reforestation. Willow clones come from the whole area of the genus Salix. Selected clones are tested as biomass-producing woody crops.
